AN EPIDEMIC: DARKNESS OF THE SOUL
On the heels of the latest two well known suicides; Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain I shared my thoughts on social media. I decided to give this a home on my blog so I can be reminded that sometimes we are blind to what the person standing right next to us might be going through.
Depression and darkness is a sad event. Don't ever underestimate the pain someone close to you may be living with. Money doesn't make you happy. Fame doesn't make you happy. We all wonder how someone who has everything can be in such darkness. Yet, we all know someone who doesn't have much or may struggle to pay a bill, and still rises to the occasion to celebrate their life every day. We who are on this side of the light may think we know what those who are in darkness want to hear, or what they need to do. Spewing out righteous indignation comments will not help. Who are we to be in their shoes. If we can just be their light to step out of the darkness, that will be enough.
I will tell you now. If you have any regard for your space on earth go out and celebrate your life, be with friends and family at all cost. Be with those who feed your soul and not with those who think they have lived through your eyes and / or who believe they have your answers. If you're in a dark place go searching for someone who can give you light not answers to questions you don't have.
