WHAT IS HYGGE?
Pronounced hoo-ga or hue-ga. Hygge is characteristic of the Danish culture. It is defined in the English dictionary as “the practice of creating cozy and gratifying environments that promote wellbeing.”
Originated from the Norwegian word meaning ‘wellbeing’, it is also speculated that hygge comes from an old Norse word meaning “hug”….which is exactly how it’s meant to feel.
Despite Denmarks long and bitter winters, it is likely to be the reasons they are rated one of the happiest countries on earth. To the Danes, it is a way of life.
For me it is a very organic way of living each day. Intentionally choosing things and situations that make you feel happy and content. Most of us are doing this now, but making hygge a practice each day is ooooh so good!
⁃ Always have candles burning
⁃ Warm cozy blankets
⁃ Comforting food to share
⁃ A string of lights to create a comfy space
⁃ Books, good music and art
⁃ Flowers, plants and clay pots
⁃ Being barefoot
⁃ Sharing your life with good friends and family.
Hygge is a way of life that brings deep contentment and joy to your soul. Sending each of you hygge hugs!
